SANDSIL (SILICATE BASE BINDERS)
|
|
| |
|
|
| |
THE PRODUCT :
SANDSIL is a Sodium-base binder with adjusted ratio of Na2O : SiO2
for making moulds and cores by Co2 process.
THE PROCESS :
SANDSIL-Co2 process is based on principle of precipitation Silicate
Solution by Co2
The reaction proceeds as under :
Na2O 2SiO2 +Co2

Na2 Co3 + 2SiO2 + H2O
(Silica Gel )
Continued
Gassing dehydrates the Gel giving bond
2 Na2HCO3+2SiO2
When the SANDSIL is mixed with Sand, the sand grains are covered
with a thin film of SANDSIL, on blowing Co2 gas, the individual
Sand grains are cemented to each other at their contact points by
Silica Get to give a firm bond.
MIXING CYCLE :
Dry Silica Sand (AFS55#65) : 100 Parts
SANDSIL : 4 to 5 Parts.
Breakdown Agent : 1.5 to 2 Parts.
Mixing Time :
3 to 4 Minutes. Mixed Sand should be covered with wet cloth for
increasing the bench life.
Strength Development (Shear Strength) :
Immediate after gassing : 40 60 PSI.
1 Hours : 80 100 PSI.
4 Hours : 120 140 PSI.
24 Hours : 160 180 PSI
Breakdown ( For SANDSIL 1A/SANDSIL-8/SANDSIL-123) @ 980°C
For 5 Minutes. 20-30 PSI.
